RWSS Partnership Steering Committee (PSC) meeting was held in 1st February 2013 with an aim to review the implementation on RWSSP workplan 2012 and endorse the workplan for 2013-2015.

On 17 January 2013, the RWSSP Coordination Unit organized a consultation meeting on the draft workplan 2013-2014 with the participation of national and international members of the Partnership. The comments on the draft workplan have been taken into consideration to revise and finalise the workplan which will be submitted to the Steering Committee for endorsement at the upcoming 10 PSC meeting.

At the meeting the participants’ comments and suggestions on RWSSP’s roles covering information sharing, knowledge management, and policy dialogue were ackowledged. Based on the suggestions, AusAID together with other donors and NGOs working in RWSS field will work closely with RWSSP to develop detailed workplan for 20143-2015 which will be highly feasible and effectively implemented to archive expected results.

The PSC Chairman highlighted some directions for RWSSP consideration in the multi-year workplan focus activities with two criteria: (i) Schemes sustainability and (ii) cooperation between NGOs and GoV. In order to do so, the following issues should be considered:

  1. How to promote NGO initiatives? Can they be adopted in national big programs? (Cost, knowledge, capacity?). Should the GoV try NGO approaches?
  2. To serve as a bridge, create relation between donors and GoV, the Coordination Unit should consider improving the operation in the way that information is conveyed to GoV’s policy making agencies more strongly.
  3. Technology solutions jointly developed by NGO and donor agencies are evaluated as much better than the GoV’s agencies doing by themselves. Therefore the GoV’s agencies need to be supported and shared in this regard.
  4. Some activities on sustainability to be shared can be:
    1. Technologies for mountainous areas or islands should be developed.
    2. Effectiveness of consultants (good, bad quality…)
    3. Effectiveness of PforR, CHOBA, green technology, climate change impact on water supply schemes.
    4. Participation of local people and local authorities, how to integrate into New Rural Development Program.
  5. Policy dialogue should be along with policy support. From GoV’s agencies and MARD side, we are willing to listen to so that initiatives can be adopted in National Programs.
