The meeting was chaired by Mr. Nguyen The Phuong, Director General of the Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment and financed by the Water and Sanitation Programme of World bank. The Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Partnership (RWSSP) under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Vietnam Urban Forum under Ministry of Construction co-chaired the meeting.

 More than 40 participants from relevant government ministries and agencies (MARD, MONRE, MOH, MPI, MOC), bilateral donors, United Nations organizations, private sector, political and social organizations, NGOs and representatives from some local provinces attended the meeting.

 The meeting came up with fruitful discussions generating useful contributions to the draft of the IYS Action Plan 2008 and recommendations for the immediate action plan for three coming months with the following activities: 

 Ø       The IYS 2008 shall be launched by the Government and a sanitation campaign shall be conducted continuously in .

 Ø       The initiative proposal of Unified Sanitation Sector Strategy and Action Plan (U3SAP) shall be submitted to the Prime Minster for approval and the hosting agency shall be defined.

 Ø       The IYS Action Plan of Vietnam shall be completed and circulated to relevant ministries and agencies for comments and submitted for approval.
